Report for the period from 1st Jan 2011 to 31st March 2012

Overview:

Community Care Centre was started in the year 2002 as Care and Support Centre. Later in 2008, it was restarted as Community Care Centre in a new premises on the First Floor of Medical Ward.

The Aim of CCC is to provide Competent and Comprehensive Care to PLHA’s which includes Testing, Counselling, Medical Services, ART Registration,  ART Adherence Counselling & Monitoring, Quality Diet, Palliative Care, LFU and Missed cases Tracking etc., under one single roof.

 

World AIDS Day:

The Combined Service was conducted at Chapel by Dr. B. Wesley, Director, AMC.  He spoke on the theme of World Aids Day “Zero New Infections & Zero Discrimination”.  Expressing his deep concern for the HIV infected & affected, he exhorted the congregation consisting of staff, students, patients and their attendants to put in their best efforts to prevent transmission of the disease and stop stigmatising and discriminating of PLHA’s.

The pledge for World Aids Day was administered to all the staff and students by                        Dr. B. Wesley, Director along with  Dr. R. Muralimohan Rao, Senior Medical Officer, CCC. Later all the Staff and Students of AMC went on a rally in all the surrounding villages.  Slogans against HIV/AIDS were raised by the rallyists.  Placards with catchy slogans were displayed.  The rally which started at 10:00 AM ended at 01:00 PM.

At 01:00 PM all the In Patients in the CCC and PLHA’s, (about 40) were presented with warm clothing (Shawls).  On this occasion a Community Lunch with PLHA’s and Staff was organised.  We seated patients and the staff together for this lunch to emphasise our commitment to de-stigmatisation and non-discrimination. This was a symbolic gesture for non-discrimination and de-stigmatisation. 

At 04:00 PM a workshop on “Basics of HIV/AIDS” was conducted by Dr. R. Muralimohan Rao, Senior Medical Officer, Community Care Centre for the staff of AMC, Faculty and Students of School & College of Nursing.  An effort was made in this workshop to impart essentials of HIV/AIDS transmission and the role of Health Care workers.  Universal precautions and PEP were explained to the participants.  This was followed by an interactive sessions.
The programme came to a conclusion in the evening with a concluding prayer for the welfare of all the stakeholders. 

Achievements:

Spiritual:
Every Sunday Special Prayers are conducted at CCC for all patients by the Counsellor.  All the Patients learn many new songs and they are also taught how to pray.

Counselling:
All the PLHAs were counselled on all the aspects like ART, Drug Adherence, Psycho Socio & awared on precautionary steps to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS.
Group meetings were conducted regularly 4 per month with the PLHAs & their attenders.

Medical:

Dr. B. Wesley, Director, AMC conducted elective surgeries for PLHA at AMC. During the year the following were conducted
Haemorrhoidectomy   -           1;         Normal Deliveries       -           2
Hysterectomy              –          2;         Vaginal Hysterectomy -          1         
Tubectomy                  –          3;         LSCS                          -           2
I & D                           -           8;         Chest Aspirations        -           12

Two positive normal deliveries were conducted by Dr. B. Wesley, Director during the year. Enough precautions were taken to avoid vertical transmission. The Dry Blood Sample of this child tested negative.
